Hi friends. I hope you had a great weekend! We definitely spent most of the weekend enjoying the gorgeous weather. It was low-60s and sunny & the leaves are definitely at their peak here so we're soaking it up. We also went to a couple open houses this weekend which was fun. We're about a month out from starting the home-buying process which is crazy! I'll definitely share more in a post soon.

I'm very excited because I have decided from now through December to do a "Capsule Wardrobe" challenge. In today's post, I will take you guys through selecting 20 capsule pieces from my wardrobe and will show you guys on the blog and on Instagram how I style those pieces many different ways.

I have had a strong feeling that I need to really overhaul my closet and also need to be more intentional with my purchases, investing in only classic/timeless pieces that I can wear over and over many different ways. I took this approach last winter but sort of fell off the wagon once quarantine started and went a little crazy with online shopping. I get mad at myself for getting so "influenced" to spend money and for contributing to overconsumption. **Stepping off my soapbox**

I hope you guys find this challenging interesting/helpful & I personally am hoping to gain a new outlook on spending + being more creative with a smaller wardrobe!

I tried to cover basics/knits/outerwear/footwear. I didn't include tanks/tees although I probably will throw a few of those into the mix and also didn't include other accessories like hats/jewelry because I found that a little too difficult to narrow down! I think I will do a separate post on the most classic & versatile accessories in my closet.

Below are my 5 tips for creating a capsule wardrobe:

1.) Stick to neutrals - this comes as a surprise to no one that all of these pieces are very neutral. This wasn't hard to do since my closet was already about 90% neutral.

2.) Consider all occasions -  I tried to incorporate pieces that can all be dressed up or down. If I was back in the office I probably would have thrown a pair of heels & trousers into the mix! Generally, you want to select pieces that work with your lifestyle.

3.) Consider the weather - I did not include heavy outerwear because we're not quite there yet but I did include outerwear pieces here that can be layered under heavier pieces! I'll do an updated post when temperatures start to drop and I have to break out the big coats.

4.) When selecting items, consider if it goes with at least 2 other items in your capsule. For example, when I selected my utility jacket, I pictured it layered over the grey sweater with jeans and booties but also it would look great paired with the sweatshirt, leggings, & sneakers.

5.) Consider your personal style/add your own flair. While I wanted the outfits to be pretty timeless, I wanted to add my own style by throwing in some edgier pieces like the combat boots & snake booties. If you have a more feminine style, you might add in a slip skirt or heels. Make sure they are easy-to-style pieces but make them your own!

Let me know if you guys enjoyed this post and if you have ever tried out a capsule wardrobe!
